Rep. Lee Releases 2021 First Quarterly Report

April 14, 2021

WASHINGTON — Today, U.S. Rep. Susie Lee (NV-03) released a progress report marking her first quarter of 2021 in the 117th Congress and highlights of her office's accomplishments. To read more about her accomplishments in the first quarter, click here, and see highlights below.

Rep. Lee's Accomplishments Delivering for Constituents of Nevada's 3rd District Since January 1, 2021:

  • Recovered approximately $264,750 for constituents.
  • Closed approximately 100 cases for constituents who requested assistance with a federal agency.
  • Responded to approximately 950 constituent requests for assistance.

Leading the Charge in Congress for State and Local Aid to Combat COVID-19:

Rep. Lee has been a vocal advocate in Congress pushing for federal assistance to states and communities suffering from devastating budget shortfalls due to lost tax revenue during the COVID-19 pandemic. On March 10, she helped secure over $4 billion in direct aid for Nevada through the American Rescue Plan.

On February 26, Rep. Lee introduced legislation to increase critical federal aid for Medicaid programs for states experiencing high unemployment. The bill would create automatic triggers that increase the Federal Medical Assistance Percentage (FMAP), or the share of Medicaid costs borne by the federal government, based on each state's unemployment condition. An increase in federal Medicaid assistance would help states allocate budget resources towards important programs like education, infrastructure, and social services.

Rep. Lee also pushed for the modernization of state unemployment insurance systems by signing on to the Unemployment Insurance Technology Modernization Act, which would make federal investments in state unemployment insurance systems to prevent fraud and address the widespread delays and technical difficulties that job seekers have encountered while filing for unemployment insurance.

Legislative Highlights:

On February 25, Rep. Lee urged House leaders to include tax relief legislation for unemployed Nevadans in the American Rescue Plan. The legislation would remove taxes on the first $10,200 of unemployment compensation from federal income taxes for tax year 2020, and was ultimately signed into law as a part of the American Rescue Plan.

To address the lack of resources in underserved communities and for special education students, Rep. Lee also introduced the Keep Our Promise to America's Children and Teachers (PACT) Act, which would put Congress on a fiscally responsible path to meet its obligation to fully fund Title I and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) over the next 10 years. Fully funding IDEA and Title I will provide Clark County School District with the resources it needs to provide a strong public education for all students, regardless of their background.
