Rep. Lee Touts Funding for Broadband Access in Underserved Communities from Bipartisan Infrastructure Law

January 27, 2022

WASHINGTON This week, U.S. Rep. Susie Lee (Nev.-03) highlighted how funding from the bipartisan infrastructure law will expand internet access in southern Nevada, particularly in its rural communities. Rep. Lee, Joe Peeples, director of field operations of Cox Communications, and Andy Bischel, president and CEO of Boys and Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada discussed how Cox's participation in the Affordable Connectivity Program, made permanent by the bipartisan infrastructure law, will help low-income households receive high-speed internet access as Nevadans continue to work and learn from home. They also emphasized Cox's commitment to technology investment in southern Nevada through the company's creation of Cox Innovation Labs at eight Boys & Girls Clubs, including the Kish Club in Henderson.

"Repairing Nevada's infrastructure isn't just about investing in our roads and bridges. It's also about expanding access to high-speed internet, which is vital to ensuring that every Nevada family can continue to work and learn from home as we recover from the pandemic," said Rep. Lee. "I applaud Cox Communications and Boys and Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada for partnering up to make sure every child has access to the resources they need to succeed, and I look forward to seeing how the bipartisan infrastructure law continues to yield dividends in southern Nevada."

"Access to technology is essential for our youth and all members of our communities," saidPeeples. "Cox Innovation Labs help close the technology achievement gap as do working partnerships with federal, state and local governments."

"Cox Innovation Labs provide Club youth a gateway to the future. Labs not only provide youth a place to learn, but they also inspire curiosity by giving members the chance to connect with technologies they otherwise would not and potentially find the passion to pursue a career in the field," said Bischel. "We are grateful for the significant contributions from Cox to make these labs possible."
