Rep. Lee Votes to Defend Reproductive Health Rights Against Dangerous Assaults, Enshrine Roe v. Wade Protections into Law

September 24, 2021

WASHINGTON – Today, Rep. Susie Lee (Nev.-03) voted to pass the Women's Health Protection Act, a bill that would guarantee the right for patients to access abortion care and providers to provide abortion services, free from medically unnecessary and dangerous restrictions. The passage of the Women's Health Protection Act comes on the heels of the Supreme Court's decision to allow Texas's six-week abortion ban to go into effect and as the Court is scheduled to take up Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization on the Mississippi abortion ban later this year. The Women's Health Protection Act would protect against dangerous laws like these, guarantee the right to abortion care in federal law, and end political interference with women's private medical decisions.

"It's simple: politics doesn't belong in the doctor's office. Women should be able to keep their personal health care decisions between themselves and those that they trust," said Rep. Lee. "Reproductive rights are under attack across the country, and this bill is critical to ensuring that women will always have the right to make health care decisions based on what is best for them and their circumstances. I am proud to have voted for this bill and will continue fighting to protect women's right to choose."
