Rep. Susie Lee Announces More than $1.6 Million in Funding from Bipartisan Infrastructure Law for Safer Streets Initiative

February 1, 2023

WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Susie Lee announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has awarded the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) more than $1.6 Million in funding for RTC's Community-Driven Regional Safety Action Plan. This funding comes from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law's new Safe Streets and Roads for All grant program. Rep. Lee helped negotiate and pass the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which was signed into law in November 2021.

"The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law continues to deliver for Nevadans," said Congresswoman Lee. "Southern Nevada roads are far too dangerous – for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists – and this funding will help make us all safer. As a member of the Problem Solvers Caucus, I'm proud to have worked to bring Democrats and Republicans together to pass this historic law. Now, I look forward to seeing the life-saving work that RTC will do with this important funding."

This funding will allow the RTC to develop a community-driven action plan that leverages new data sources to prioritize equitable mobility projects and utilize cost-effective, impactful strategies to significantly reduce the unacceptable 128 traffic deaths that occurred in Clark County last year. The plan will directly address a safety crisis that resulted in 43 bicycle and pedestrian deaths in just the last year. A new project scoring and prioritization system will utilize benefit-cost ratios, with a focus on reducing high vehicle speeds that lead to traffic deaths and injuries.
