May 18, 2021

Biden-Harris Administration releases American Rescue Plan funding for local institutions; At least half of the funding will be distributed to students as emergency financial aid

WASHINGTON – Today, Rep. Susie Lee announced more than $200 million in emergency funding for colleges, universities, and students in Nevada under the American Rescue Plan. Of this $200 million, more than $9 million will go to Nevada State College, which is in Nevada's Third District, and more than $59 million will go to College of Southern Nevada, which has a campus in Henderson in Nevada's Third District.

The funding will help local institutions cope with the severe financial fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic and continue serving their students safely. At least half of the funding each institution receives will be distributed in the form of emergency cash assistance grants to students who are facing hunger, homelessness, and other hardship.

The American Rescue Plan provides $36 billion for nearly 3,500 public and private, nonprofit colleges and universities nationwide.

"To recover from this pandemic, we must invest in our students," said Rep. Susie Lee. "The success of our local colleges and universities is critical to the success of our students and to the strength of this community. The American Rescue Plan will provide struggling students with urgent relief that will keep them in school, and help them to stay on track and complete their education. I am proud that we were able to deliver this critical support for our institutions of higher education, and I know that this funding will go a long way in helping our community rebuild stronger than ever."

University of Nevada, Las Vegas: $68,098,713
