Washington, D.C. - Rep. Susie Lee (Nev.-03) released the following statement to commemorate the 2019 National Prisoner of War/Missing in Action (POW/MIA) Recognition Day:
"Today, we remember and honor every American servicemember who was a Prisoner of War or Missing in Action. Like many congressional offices in Washington, outside of my office I proudly display the POW/MIA flag. Every day as I walk into my office, this flag reminds who I'm fighting for and why I'm here.
"It's heartbreaking so many brave Americans throughout our nation's history did not return home after serving our country, but that is why we honor their sacrifice. As Americans, it is our duty to ensure that every servicemember is recognized, appreciated, and honored for putting their lives on the line for our freedom.
"To honor their legacy, we must fight to ensure our servicemembers, veterans, and their families back home have the support they need to lead a life worthy of their sacrifices, and we always remember that You Are Not Forgotten."
BACKGROUND: Rep. Lee co-led the You Are Not Forgotten Act (H.R. 3025), which would direct the Architect of the Capitol to display POW/MIA flags outside the entrance of the office of each member of Congress. The flags, designed by the National League of Families, represent America's missing soldiers.
