Rep. Susie Lee Commemorates Women’s History Month
Washington, D.C. - U.S. Rep. Susie Lee (Nev.-03) released the following statement commemorating March as Women's History Month:
"I'm proud to be a member of the largest class of women ever to be elected to Congress. In just over a year, we have already shown what female leadership can achieve, and I hope that one day, Congress will have a female majority just like Nevada's legislature achieved in 2018.
"We have not wasted any time, and are championing legislation that helps women and families succeed, like access to quality, affordable health care and reproductive care; equal pay for equal work; access to child care; paid leave; and the Violence Against Women Act.
"No matter how much progress we make or bills we pass, there is always room to do more. This month and every month, let's not forget that and embrace the fact that we all have a role in creating a more equitable community and country."
BACKGROUND: As a member of the Democratic Women's Caucus, Rep. Lee is committed to finding solutions to problems hurting women, families, and all Americans. The bold, comprehensive Democratic Women's Caucus policy agenda is outlined here.
On Feb. 11, 2020, the House of Representatives passed the bipartisan Smithsonian Women's History Museum Act today, which would establish the country's first comprehensive women's history museum. Rep. Lee played a central role in building the bipartisan support needed to successfully pass the bill out of the House.
In September 2019, Problem Solvers Caucus members Reps. Lee and Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Pa.-01) led the charge in garnering bipartisan support for the bill to pass the 290-cosponsor threshold to be placed on the consensus calendar. This is the result of a new House rule that the Problem Solvers Caucus championed as part of its ‘Break the Gridlock' initiative. This brought the bill one step closer to passage.
