Rep. Susie Lee Helps Pass Legislation to Facilitate Adding Equal Rights Amendment to the Constitution

March 17, 2021

WASHINGTON – T0day, U.S. Rep. Susie Lee (Nev.-03) voted to pass H.J.Res.17, which would remove the deadline for ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment.

"It is far past time that women in this country have equal protection under the law, plain and simple," said Rep. Lee. "Although women have legal protections through a patchwork of laws, these laws can easily be repealed or undermined. Gender equality should not depend on the current political agenda, whims of Congress, or who is sitting in the White House. The fundamental rights of women should and must be guaranteed. That's why I was proud to vote to remove the time limit for reauthorization of the ERA, a critical step in toward ensuring that the ERA becomes the 28th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution."
