Rep. Susie Lee Helps Pass National Apprenticeship Act to Invest in Critical Workforce Development Programs
Bill Includes Key Amendment Co-Sponsored by Rep. Lee to Create Apprenticeships in the Hospitality and Tourism Industry
WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Susie Lee (Nev.-03) helped pass the National Apprenticeship Act of 2021 in the U.S. House of Representatives. This bill would expand access to high-quality, federally funded Registered Apprenticeships, youth apprenticeships, and pre-apprenticeships. Investing in Registered Apprenticeships, and workforce development as a whole, has been a top priority for Rep. Lee throughout her time in Congress. Rep. Lee worked to ensure that the Department of Labor will fund new apprenticeships for the hospitality and tourism industries that are so vital to Nevada's economy.
"As we navigate our way out of this pandemic, we must ensure that we are continuing to invest in the long-term health of Nevada's economy," said Rep. Lee. "The National Apprenticeship Act would create more stability in our workforce, which is exactly what hard-hit states like Nevada will need post-pandemic. Registered Apprenticeships are our nation's most successful federal workforce development program, with a 94 percent hiring rate for workers who complete a Registered Apprenticeship, and an average starting salary of $70,000 a year. The National Apprenticeship Act will prepare our workforce for the post-pandemic job market and give Nevada workers more opportunities to succeed."
