Rep. Susie Lee Helps Pass National Apprenticeship Act, Investment in Critical Workforce Development Programs

November 20, 2020

Washington, D.C. U.S. Rep. Susie Lee (Nev.-03) helped pass the National Apprenticeship Act of 2020 in the U.S. House of Representatives. This bill would expand access to high-quality, federally funded Registered Apprenticeships, youth apprenticeships, and pre-apprenticeships. Investing in Registered Apprenticeships, and workforce development as a whole, has been a top priority for Rep. Lee in the 116th Congress.

"For the long-term health of Nevada's economy and working families, we need to invest in workforce development now," said Rep. Lee. "The National Apprenticeship Act would create more stability in our workforce, which is exactly what hard-hit states like Nevada will need post-pandemic. Registered Apprenticeships are our nation's most successful federal workforce development program, with a 94 percent hiring rate for workers who complete a Registered Apprenticeship, and an average starting salary of $70,000 a year. The National Apprenticeship Act will prepare our workforce for the post-pandemic job market and give Nevada workers more opportunities to succeed."
