Rep. Susie Lee Helps Pass Paycheck Fairness Act, Critical Legislation to Secure Equal Pay for Equal Work

April 15, 2021

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Rep. Susie Lee (NV-03) voted to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act. This legislation would secure equal pay for men and women and work to close the gender wage gap by promoting pay transparency, strengthening equal pay protections, and combatting discriminatory pay practices.

"Despite the enactment of the Equal Pay Act nearly 60 years ago, pay discrimination remains a sad reality in America," said Rep. Lee. "It's unacceptable that women make 82 cents for every dollar a man makes for the same job. For women of color, this pay disparity is even more unfair, and can total to over $400,000 in lost wages over the span of a career. With 2.3 million women pushed out of the labor market this past year due to the public health and economic crisis, they must be given priority in our recovery. The Paycheck Fairness Act is a common-sense solution that will get us one step closer to equal pay for equal work for all Americans, which is why I was proud to vote for this bill today."
