Rep. Susie Lee Honors Anniversary of 1963 March on Washington
Las Vegas, Nev. - Rep. Susie Lee (Nev.-03) released the following statement to mark the 56th anniversary of the March on Washington, the landmark civil rights movement event on Aug. 28, 1963:
"If the history of America were broken into snapshots, the March on Washington would be front and center. Two hundred fifty thousand Americans overflowed from the Lincoln Memorial, standing arm in arm against racism, fighting for the indelible rights of every man, woman, and child regardless of the color of their skin. This day reminds us that civil and human rights must be fought for and defended, and it is every person's responsibility to get off the sidelines and speak up for those whose voices are marginalized by hatred and discrimination.
"But the fight for justice is not over. I will continue to prioritize my solemn duty as an elected representative to stand up for all marginalized communities in southern Nevada and throughout the country. I won't rest until we achieve true equality for all."
