Rep. Susie Lee Introduces Bipartisan Amendment to Improve Veterans’ Child Care Options
Washington, DC - Today, Rep. Susie Lee (D-NV) introduced a bipartisan amendment to the Veterans' Access to Child Care Act that would ensure every veteran is able to access child care services regardless of whether they are using them at a VA Medical Center or a Vet Center. Under the bill as written, only veterans at VA Medical Centers would have access to child care. However, a large number of veterans also receive mental health treatment and re-adjustment services at Vet Centers. To correct this, and ensure that all veterans are able to access the child care services under this bill, Rep. Susie Lee and Rep. Debbie Lesko (R-AZ), introduced a bipartisan amendment that guarantees access to child care regardless of where the veteran is receiving care.
Rep. Susie Lee released the following statement about her amendment to help veterans with child care needs:
"Today I introduced a bipartisan amendment to ensure that all veterans, especially women veterans, are able to rely on child care while they are getting the care they need, whether at a VA facility or Vet Center. No veteran should have to choose between caring for their child and caring for themselves. Veterans and their families make enormous sacrifices for our freedom, and we should honor that sacrifice by ensuring they receive the care and access to benefits they need when they come home."
