Rep. Susie Lee Meets Local Seniors to Discuss Critical Legislation

Henderson, Nev. - Rep. Susie Lee (Nev.-03) met with constituents at the Heritage Senior Center Craft Sale and then met with the Nevada Alliance for Retired Americans to discuss policy priorities for southern Nevada's senior citizens. Those priorities include the reauthorization of the Older Americans Act, rising prescription drug prices, and bolstering social security and Medicare.
"It's my duty in Congress to look out for every one of my constituents, and that includes southern Nevada's senior citizens," said Rep. Lee. "Right now, there are too many policies that are making it harder and harder for our seniors to make ends meet. Whether it's the curbing the skyrocketing cost of prescription drugs, stopping incessant robocall fraud, strengthening pensions and retirement plans, or protecting social security and Medicare, we need to support common sense policies that improve the lives of our seniors. First and foremost, Congress needs to reauthorize the Older Americans Act this month to protect the dozens of critical programs that seniors rely on every day."
BACKGROUND: When Congress returns next week, members are expected to take up the Older Americans Act (OAA), which expires on Sept. 30. The OAA funds critical programs for America's senior citizens, including the Meals on Wheels program, family caregiver support, case management, and transportation. The landmark bill has long-standing bipartisan support, and is critical to the health and livelihood of thousands of southern Nevada's senior citizens. In July 2019, Rep. Susie Lee introduced the DO NOT Call Act to curb illegal robocalls, and championed the Stop Illegal Robocalls Act, which passed the House last month. In May 2019, Rep. Lee helped pass the Strengthening Health Care and Lowering Prescription Costs Act in the House of Representatives, and has voted eight times to protect the Affordable Care Act, including provisions that help older Americans save money on prescription medications through Medicare Part D.
