Rep. Susie Lee Names Las Vegas Nurse as Virtual Guest to State of the Union Address
WASHINGTON – Rep. Susie Lee has named Las Vegas nurse, Liz Bolhouse, as her Hometown Hero virtual guest to President Biden's State of the Union Address to Congress today.
The State of the Union Address will highlight the achievements and work still to be done under the leadership of President Biden. While safety protocols mean this year's in-person attendance will be limited, Rep. Susie Lee believes that uplifting Liz's story as a virtual guest is an important way to honor all of the hardworking health care workers across southern Nevada.
"Liz, a Nevada nurse of 22 years, is the face of our nation's struggle and recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic," said Rep. Susie Lee. "Thanks to the American Rescue Plan, Nevada is well on its way to recovery, but we would not be where we are without hardworking nurses, like Liz ,who are our true heroes. These have been some of our nation's toughest times, but they've brought out the best in our dedicated and selfless health care workers. Even while working long hours in demanding conditions amidst staff shortages, Liz has shown her dedication to the health and safety of our community and Nevada is better because of it. I am honored to have her as my guest for the State of the Union."
"The past two years have been incredibly challenging for health care workers in southern Nevada," said Liz Bolhouse, a nurse at University Medical Center and SEIU Local 1107 Chief Steward. "We've faced long, grueling hours, but we've kept fighting to keep our community healthy and safe. As a Chief Steward for SEIU 1107, I represent over 1,000 nurses and certified nursing assistants at University Medical Center, and I know just how passionate and hardworking they are. For us, nursing isn't just a profession, it's a calling. I'm so honored that Rep. Susie Lee has chosen to honor the dedication and sacrifice of health care workers in southern Nevada by inviting me to be her virtual guest for the State of the Union.
