Rep. Susie Lee, Outdoor Recreation Community, Lawmakers Celebrate 3rd Annual Public Lands Day

September 28, 2019

Las Vegas, Nev.— U.S. Rep. Susie Lee (Nev.-03) joined community organizations, outdoor recreation businesses, local and state elected officials, and advocates to celebrate Nevada's 3rd annual Public Lands Day. The event honored the special place public lands and outdoor spaces occupy in the hearts and minds of Nevadans.

"The thing I cherish the most about Nevada is our wide-open spaces," said Rep. Lee. "We are blessed with incredible public lands—from Red Rock, to Sloan Canyon, to Spirit Mountain. They encapsulate our history, our vitality, our health, and our happiness. I love starting my day with hikes or bike rides along our Valley's landscapes, and I truly can't imagine my life without the opportunity to do those things in my backyard. For our environment, community, and the health of the entire country, we need to continue fighting to conserve America's public lands."

BACKGROUND: Beginning in 1994, Public Lands Day is a nationally celebrated event held on the fourth Saturday in September. In Nevada, Public Lands Day was established by the 2017 legislature to also be held on the fourth Saturday of September. Since then, the conservation and outdoor recreation communities have come together to host a celebration of Nevada's natural landscapes. This year, the celebration is proudly sponsored by businesses who support Nevada's outdoor recreation economy by equipping travelers with the gear they need to explore Nevada's public lands.
