Rep. Susie Lee Pushes Committee to Address Overcrowding in Schools in the Rebuild America’s Schools Act
Washington, DC – Rep. Susie Lee’s provision to address school overcrowding was included in the (NV-03) The Rebuild America’s Schools Act, which passed out of the Education and Labor Committee today. This isn’t the first time Lee has pushed Congress to address this problem. Earlier this month, Lee highlighted how underfunding of schools can exasperate overcrowding and ultimately hurt Nevada’s students.
Rep. Susie Lee released the following statement after successfully getting the Committee to address classroom overcrowding as part of The Rebuild America’s Schools Act:
“Classroom overcrowding is an issue that has plagued Southern Nevada schools for years. Adding language to The Rebuild America’s Schools Act is a vital first step towards addressing this problem. Every child deserves a quality education, and I have made it my top priority to invest in our schools, students, and teachers. I’m proud of this legislation and will keep fighting every day to improve Nevada schools.”
A study in August by the National Education Association found that Nevada had the largest average class size in the country for the second year in a row.
