Rep. Susie Lee Responds to President Biden’s Joint Address to Congress

April 28, 2021

WASHINGTON — U.S. Representative Susie Lee (D-NV-03) released the following statement in response to President Biden's joint address to Congress:

"Tonight, we heard from President Biden just how far we've come in his first 100 days. We're well on our way to recovery, thanks to the American Rescue Plan, but we can't take our foot off the gas. The health and economic fallout of the pandemic has made it clear that in order to rebuild America's middle class, we must invest in both jobs and families

"President Biden outlined his vision for how we can create good-paying jobs while rebuilding our nation's infrastructure. Republicans and Democrats across the country agree we need to invest in our crumbling roads, upgrade our water systems to ensure clean drinking water, invest in broadband, and, of course, build schools – this is especially important to keep up with our growing population here in southern Nevada. We need to invest in families, too, if we're going to rebuild our middle class. That means investing in affordable child care, expanding the Child Tax Credit, and providing paid family and medical leave so that workers can care for their families. All of these policies will protect and strengthen our middle class.

"We've got our work cut out for us as we recover from this pandemic and rebuild stronger than before. I look forward to working with my colleagues – both Democrats and Republicans – to find common ground and invest in working families in Nevada and across the country."
