Rep. Susie Lee’s Proposal to Add Battleground Leadership Representative Adopted by Democratic Caucus

November 30, 2022

WASHINGTON – Today, Rep. Susie Lee's proposal to add a Battleground Leadership Representative to Democratic Leadership passed out of the Democratic Caucus and was adopted into Democratic Caucus Rules for the 118th Congress. Rep. Lee's rules change was also favorably reported on Monday by the Committee on Caucus Procedures and was endorsed by the New Democrat Coalition.

"Those of us representing ‘battleground' districts like mine know first-hand what it takes to win the toughest of fights," said Rep. Susie Lee. "Regaining -- and then maintaining – the majority hinges on defending battleground seats and flipping competitive seats. To do that, Battleground representatives must have a seat at the leadership table. I'm so proud that our Caucus has recognized the value of having this perspective represented and has voted to add this position to our Caucus leadership. I know having a Battleground Representative in Democratic Leadership will make our Caucus stronger and more formidable. I look forward to voting with my Battleground colleagues to select a Representative who will ensure that the Battleground Member perspective is in the room where our Caucus agenda is steered and where key decisions are made."

BACKGROUND:
