Rep. Susie Lee Secures $3 Million in Funding for Water-Saving Septic Conversion Program in Government Funding Bill
WASHINGTON – Today, Rep. Susie Lee announced that she secured the inclusion of $3 million for Southern Nevada Water Authority's (SNWA) Septic Conversion Program in the Fiscal Year 2023 Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies appropriations bill. This program helps southern Nevada homeowners transition from septic systems to municipal sewer systems. SNWA's program can cover up to 85% of total costs for conversion, which can cost anywhere from $20,000 to $200,000. Municipal sewer systems are proven to save water, which is critical as southern Nevada faces extreme drought.
"As southern Nevada faces the worst drought in 12 centuries, I'm committed to doing everything I can to help our state conserve our precious water resources," said Rep. Susie Lee. "This Southern Nevada Water Authority program helps cover costs for homeowners to convert their homes that use a septic system to a sewer system – an important program as homes with septic systems consume six times more water than homes connected to a sewer system in the Las Vegas Valley. This is a common-sense investment, and I will continue to fight to get SNWA this funding to help more homeowners save more water."
Rep. Susie Lee submitted several Community Project Funding requests to the Appropriations Committee, of which she is a member. Information on the status of additional requests will continue to be announced in the coming days.
The inclusion of this funding in the Appropriations Committee draft bill is the first step in the funding process. Rep. Susie Lee will continue to fight for this funding as the bill moves to the full Appropriations Committee, consideration on the House Floor, and negotiations with the Senate.
