Rep. Susie Lee Secures Increased Funding for Students, Opioid Abuse Treatment, Veterans, Public Lands, and More in House Passed Appropriations Bill

Washington, DC—Today, Representatives Susie Lee (NV-03) secured important investments for Nevada's third district with the passage of H.R. 3055, a "minibus" package of fiscal year 2020 appropriations bills, which passed the House today.

"Southern Nevada's families are counting on Congress to invest in the economy, the community, and in programs that improve their lives, and I'm proud to do my part to secure funding that will do exactly that by increasing investment in our education, transportation, homelessness prevention, veteran services, opioid abuse treatment, public lands, and much more," said Rep. Susie Lee. "I advocated strongly for programs that made it through final passage of the bill that will have a real impact on Nevadan's lives, including full funding for the Land and Water Conservation Fund to conserve and protect southern Nevada's public lands, increased funding for veteran suicide prevention, and full funding for the Summer Food Service Program to help our young students in underserved communities."

H.R. 3055 consists of four FY 2020 appropriations bills that fund federal agencies including the Departments of Commerce, Justice, Interior, Defense, Veterans Affairs, Agriculture, Transportation, and Housing and Urban Development.

Below are a number of priorities of Lee worked to secure and pass in H.R. 3055:

K-12 Students:

• Full funding for the Summer Food Service Program

• $35 million, an increase of $5 million, for School Kitchen Equipment Grants

• $18.5 million for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Farmers' Market program.

Veterans

• $222 million for Veterans Suicide Prevention and Outreach.

• $581.5 million for Women's Health Services at VA.

• $397 million for Opioid Treatment and Prevention at Department of Veterans Affairs.

Safety:

• $80 million, $5 million increase, for National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) Initiative grants

• $582.5 million, $85 million increase, for Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) Programs.

• $4 million, $1 million increase, for Child Abuse Training for Judicial Personnel.

Affordable Housing and Homelessness Prevention:

• $23.8 billion, $1.6 billion increase, for Tenant-Based Rental Assistance.

• $1.75 billion, $500 million increase, for HOME Investment Partnership Program.

• $2.8 billion, $164 million increase, for Homeless Assistance Grants.

Public Lands Protection and Conservation:

• Secured the continuation of the BLM Southern Nevada Public Land Management (SNPLMA) Act Program.

• $500 million for Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILT) Program.

• $524 million, $86 million increase, for Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF).
