Rep. Susie Lee Stands up for Nevadans’ Health Care Against Most Recent Attack on the Affordable Care Act in Texas v. U.S. Lawsuit
Washington, D.C. - Ahead of today's Texas v. United States lawsuit opening arguments, Rep. Susie Lee (D-NV) stood with Nevada lawmakers and health care advocates to warn against the disastrous consequences of dismantling the Affordable Care Act and jeopardizing of Americans' access to quality, affordable health care, including 1.2 million Nevadans with pre-existing conditions. In court today, the Trump Administration is asking not only to strike down protections for people with pre-existing conditions, but to eliminate every last protection and benefit provided by the Affordable Care Act.
Rep. Lee released the following statement:
"I know personally how hard life was for millions of Americans before the Affordable Care Act. Like nearly half of all Americans, both of my parents had pre-existing conditions. When my father was laid off at 56, they couldn't afford health insurance, and my mom had a heart attack literally one month before she qualified for Medicare. I witnessed firsthand how devastating it is to try to make ends meet when you lose your health care, which is why it's so important to protect the Affordable Care Act and the 1.2 million Nevadans with pre-existing conditions. Since my first day in Congress, I've made it clear that I will fight any and every effort that threatens Nevadans' access to quality, affordable health care, and I won't stop now."
KLAS-LV, Steve Sebelius: "Congresswoman Susie Lee shared her own family's health care story: a dad who couldn't find a job with benefits, a mom who suffered a heart attack just before insurance coverage would have gone into effect. She said health care is personal, and vowed that she was going to keep fighting…"

"I know one thing's for certain, that attacking and dismantling the affordable care act is not going to improve health care, it's going to make things worse," said Rep. Susie Lee. "It will destabilize our individual market. send premiums skyrocketing. dismantle protections for those with pre-existing conditions, and cut off access to health care for millions of Americans."
Overturning the Affordable Care Act would destroy:
- Coverage for 130 million Americans and 1.2 Nevadans with pre-existing conditions
- The ACA's Medicaid expansion for 15 million Americans and over 280,000 Nevadans.
- Young adults' ability to remain on their parents' insurance until age 26.
- Bans on discriminatory insurance practices that force women to pay more for coverage
- The significant savings on their prescription drugs that many seniors are receiving due to the ACA's closing of the ‘donut hole' in Medicare drug coverage, and more.
