Rep. Susie Lee Statement on Third Anniversary of Muslim Ban

January 28, 2020

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Susie Lee (Nev.-03), a members of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), released the following statement to mark yesterday's third anniversary of Executive Order 13769, signed by the President on Jan. 27, 2017, which restricts travel to the U.S. from several Muslim-majority countries:

"America's strength comes from our diversity and our willingness to create a safe home for people of all faiths, ethnicities, and backgrounds. But three years ago, the current administration issued a discriminatory travel ban that was just the opposite of the values that make our country so great. National security is of utmost importance, but banning thousands of families and vetted people of Muslim faith from entering the United States is not about security, but about division. If a person is willing to enter our country lawfully in pursuit of the American dream, the First Amendment tells us that it doesn't matter what God they pray to or what house they worship in. I will keep working with my Democratic and Republican colleagues in the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus to block the discriminatory Muslim travel ban, pass comprehensive immigration reform, and protect the values that make our country great."
