Representative Lee, Culinary Union Host “Trump Slump” Roundtable Highlighting Tourism Decline, Increased Cost of Living, No Tax on Tips
Today, Congresswoman Susie Lee (NV-03) and Culinary Workers Union Local 226 hosted a “Trump Slump” roundtable on policies pushed forward by Republicans making life harder and more expensive for southern Nevadans.
Congresswoman Lee and Culinary Union discussed how Republican policies are hurting southern Nevadans and highlighted the impact of tariffs and trade wars on Las Vegas’ tourism economy and local workers. They also discussed the work Lee is doing to support workers, including her support of no tax on tips policies. Due to the tourism slump, workers discussed seeing reductions in their work hours, drops in tipped revenue, and being reassigned to positions that receive less tips. They also shared the impact of high gas, housing, and health care costs on their budgets.
This week, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority reported that international tourism to Las Vegas had fallen 4.8% since 2024, driven in part by a more than 17% drop in Canadian tourism.
