WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Susie Lee (NV-03) released the following statement after joining the No Pay for Congress During Default or Shutdown Act, common-sense, bipartisan legislation to block Members of Congress from receiving paychecks during a government shutdown:

“Extreme MAGA Republicans are holding our country hostage and careening our government toward an entirely preventable government shutdown to further their radical political agendas. Southern Nevada’s working families, veterans, and seniors can’t afford a reckless government shutdown. If extremists in Congress continue their campaign to shut down the government, they shouldn’t expect a paycheck, and neither should any Member of Congress until this manufactured crisis is resolved. Speaker McCarthy could prevent this shutdown today by passing the bipartisan agreement from the Senate. He must stop bending to the most extreme factions of his party to preserve his own power, and instead work in good faith across the aisle to avert a shutdown and the chaos it would bring Nevada families and our economy.”

Additionally, Congresswoman Lee signed onto the My Constituents Cannot Afford Rebellious Tantrums, Handle Your (MCCARTHY) Shutdown Act, additional legislation to withhold pay from Members of Congress in the event of a shutdown. Earlier this week, Congresswoman Lee also denounced efforts to force a government shutdown on the House floor.

Last week, Congresswoman Lee joined her colleagues on the Problem Solvers Caucus in announcing a bipartisan framework to avert a government shutdown and fund the government through continuing resolution through January of next year. The framework would provide funding for border security enforcement, deliver supplemental funding for federal disaster response, and advance much-needed reform to bring sanity and stability to future debt and deficit negotiations, while increasing transparency.

Representing the Third Congressional District of Nevada, Congresswoman Susie Lee is a staunch advocate for finding common ground and advancing bipartisan solutions. Congresswoman Lee has been named one of the top ten most bipartisan Members in the U.S. House, the most bipartisan Member from Nevada, and serves as Vice-Chair of the Problem Solvers Caucus.
