Congresswoman Lee Announces Appointment to House Natural Resources Committee

February 9, 2023

House Natural Resources Committee Has Jurisdiction Over Water Resources, Public Lands, Energy Development, and Indian Affairs

WASHINGTON — Today, Congresswoman Susie Lee (NV-03) was named to the House Natural Resources Committee, a new appointment to the House committee overseeing public lands, energy development, and water conservation efforts.

This committee is of particular importance to Nevada, as the state is made up of more than 80% public lands, contains much of the land and critical minerals that will be vital to renewable energy development in our nation, and has some of the most sought-after outdoor recreation in the country. Additionally, the American West is facing the worst drought in 12 centuries, and Congresswoman Lee has been a leading voice in Congress for drought mitigation and water conservation efforts.

"I am honored to be joining the House Natural Resources Committee to stand up for Nevada's public lands in the 118th Congress," said Congresswoman Susie Lee. "I start nearly every morning in Nevada with a hike or bike ride on our beautiful public lands. These lands belong to all of us, and our state, our economy, and our communities depend on a Congress that will preserve and protect them with every vote. As our state faces the worst of this climate crisis, with the most devastating drought in 12 centuries, I will continue to fight for smart water policy and urgent solutions that will allow southern Nevada to continue to thrive. I am proud to be the voice for Nevada on this committee - a voice for public lands conservation, renewable energy development, and continued, timely action to combat the drought."

Congresswoman Lee adds this committee to her responsibilities alongside the House Appropriations Committee. Congresswoman Lee is also a leader of several caucuses and coalitions across Capitol Hill, including the New Democrat Coalition and the Bipartisan Women's Caucus.
