Economy, Jobs, & Small Businesses
My father served our country overseas and came home to a steel plant in Ohio, where he raised me and my seven siblings in a working-class family of ten. When I was eight years old, I started my own paper route to help pitch in because we had to stretch every dollar we had.
I know the value of hard work and I know southern Nevadans do too. That’s why lowering costs and expanding economic opportunity are one of my top priorities in Congress. So much of my work, particularly through annual funding bills on the House Appropriations Committee, is centered around giving hard working families the tools to succeed while bringing federal dollars back to southern Nevada. That means making it easier to support a family, creating good-paying jobs, and building infrastructure to connect our communities. It also means working to diversify our economy by supporting local small businesses, investing in domestic manufacturing, and developing our workforce.
Lowering Costs
Thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act that I helped pass, seniors on Medicare now have lower prescription drugs, a $35 monthly cap on insulin, and a $2,000 monthly cap on out-of-pocket costs – and I’ll keep fighting to make this life-changing support available to more Americans. I’m also fighting to strengthen our supply chains, invest in domestic manufacturing, build more affordable housing, and make it easier to access cost-efficient renewable energy options for your home.
Bringing Jobs to Southern Nevada and Diversifying Our Economy
I’m fighting every day to grow and diversify our local economy by bringing new companies and good-paying jobs to our community. The Inflation Reduction Act has already helped companies expand in southern Nevada and will continue to do so as we make clear to employers that we are open for business and ready to invest. From world-renowned technological innovation to hands-on manufacturing, southern Nevada is quickly becoming a hub for economic opportunity in the 21st century.
Protecting Local Union Jobs
Southern Nevada is the destination and entertainment capital of the world. But our tourism and entertainment offerings would be nothing without the hardworking union workers who make our 24/7 economy run. I’ll always stand up for the families our local economy relies on and make sure Nevada is a Union Strong state.
Supporting Small Businesses
Entrepreneurship is always what has made southern Nevada great. One of my favorite things to do on the job is visit our incredible and diverse small businesses, and rest assured I’m fighting to provide them with all the support they need in Congress. I’m proud to have helped pass bipartisan legislation in the House to put more money in the pockets of hardworking southern Nevada families, lower costs for small businesses, and make significant progress to expand the Child Tax Credit and the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit.
