From affordable housing to keeping healthcare costs down, Congresswoman Susie Lee (D-NV) shares legislation she’s working on in Congress impacting Nevadans.

"I'm horrified by the news that two members of the National Guard were shot today in D.C. I'm keeping them, their families, and every first responder on the scene in my thoughts. Violence has no place in our communities," Rep. Susie Lee said.

The Presumption for Radiation or Toxin Exposure Coverage for Troops (PROTECT) Act, proposed in February by U.S. Reps. Susie Lee, D-Nev., and Mark Amodei, R-Nev., would close the gap. The legislation would ensure medical care to veterans exposed to radiation and other toxins at the Nevada Test and Training Range by establishing a presumption of exposure to radiation and toxins at test site between the years of 1972 and 2005.

"Our men and women in uniform made countless sacrifices for our country to keep our nation safe," Lee said. "So it is our duty, and especially as a member of Congress and the daughter of a veteran, to do everything we can to protect them, especially from invisible enemies such as toxic radiation exposure."

Lee similarly highlighted radiation exposure in a statement, writing that explosive testing is unnecessary and that Congress “must have oversight” on nuclear testing.

“The states that surround the Colorado River — they’re red and blue,” Lee said in a Thursday interview. “But it’s a crisis, and the reason this reauthorization is so important is to make sure we continue to have the authority to use the funding to support these programs.”
